Hello everyone! I haven’t been posting for a while, yet again, but I have a valid reason this time. I have no WiFi, which you need, especially for uploading videos. I’m not sure when I will be able to upload more regularly, but I didn’t want to keep my blog and YouTube channel without any new content for too long. Therefore I was really happy that I was able to find a public WiFi and upload todays card, with a cute bunny and a balloon and as a colouring medium I used watercolour pencils. My watercolour pencils are form Faber-Castel, but these are not the expensive kind. These are from their cheap line, so far I only saw them in red packaging. I had them in my stash pretty much ever since I started card making and never used them. Now I’m wondering why? I used them briefly on my previous card with a snowdrop and I really liked it, so I wanted to use them again. The stamp set I used here is from Avery Elle and it’s called Some Bunny. I think this is quite versatile stamp set that covers a few occasions. This card is for a child’s Birthday, but I also made it for my husband for our anniversary, that means it can be given on Valentine’s Day. I would give it as a card for Father’s Day. Many possibilities. I used the Mini Misti stamping tool as I was stamping on a watercolour card stock that is slightly rigged and I needed to re-stamp. I stamped each stamp separately, as on my first try, the whole image wasn’t cantered. Plus I wanted the bunny to look like he is holding the balloon therefore I needed to mask him, or at least his hands. For the mask I used a Post-It tape, the one that has the adhesive on the whole back. And because I was watercolouring, the ink I used is the Versafine ink in Onyx Black, which is a waterproof ink. After I was done stamping I started watercolouring with the pencils. I applied first layer, let it dry for a bit and then I applied second layer. Using watercolour pencils is so simple, you first apply the colour across your image and then you use a damp brush to activate the colour and spread the colour across the image. Watercolour pencils might have not been the best colouring medium for this card, or more precisely for the balloon as it’s quite large. However, for smaller images they are perfect. I would say watercolour pencils are very good for beginners, as you have more control over the application. For bigger images I would use the typical watercolours in tubes or pans. It might be that because my watercolour pencils were cheap, that’s why they didn’t work great on the balloon. It might be that with more professional pencils, you might have better success, but I don’t have such pencils, therefore I can’t say for sure. After everything was dry, I die-cut the panel using a stitched rectangular die and then I adhered it on top of a side-folding card using a double-sided tape. It is very tempting to use a double-sided tape, but I knew I will be posting this card and therefore didn’t want to add to the bulk. Also other thing I changed in my card making, is the fold of my cards. Ever since I started card making, I made top folding cards - horizontal or vertical. I did this because I like my cards to stand. First of all, because of photography, top folding cards stand better and therefore are easier to photograph. I think this is why most card makers do this. And also when I get a card, I display them on my shelf and top folding cards to not fall over, compared to side-folding cards. However, now photograph my cards laying on the table and I have the feeling that people are confused when they open top folding cards, they expect it to be open as a book. This only happens with top folding vertical cards, not with horizontal cards. So I stop making them and now it’s easier to cut the card stock, as I cut it to the same size. I hope you enjoyed this blog post and also watch the video. I’m not sure when I will be able to post next time, but I hope it’s going to be soon. And there are going to be some changes coming up, so stay tuned. For that I would recommend to follow me on my Instagram or YouTube.
